The National Football League (NFL) has teamed up with the American Cancer Society to promote “A Crucial Catch: Annual Screening Saves Lives,” a campaign encouraging annual mammograms for women over 40.

DeAngelo Williams has several family members impacted by breast cancer, including his mom, who is a survivor, and his three aunts, who passed away. In September 2009 he led a group of 500 people called Williams’ Pink Panthers at Charlotte’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

“Breast cancer has cut deep into my family,” says Williams. “My mom is a five-year survivor, but the disease claimed the lives of all three of her sisters. I want women to understand the importance of regular examinations. It’s not an option in my family. Everyone gets tested. Early detection saved my mom’s life and I know it will save others.”
